The Cube
Background
The Cube (Chilvers Coton Methodist Church) is a building owned by The Methodist Circuit. In early 2003 Craig Bird approached Pauline Warner about possible use of the building, even possible purchase. It was clear that buying the building was not an option, but using the building was open for discussion.
Craig started to share his vision for a neutral venue for churches and young people alike could come and meet in a non-threatening environment, a new base for the Youth 180 offices and a decent venue for events.
During the summer of 2003 the name "The Cube" was created and the building was opened up to Youth 180 during August ready for start of the school term in September.
The building is old and needed lots of work doing including, painting, re-wiring, studded wall erecting to create offices, carpeting and decorating. The money to fund these things came from a grant from The Heart of England Foundation and generous donations from individuals linked to Youth 180.
As the academic year went on, our activities gathered momentum. Drop-in and guitar clubs were established, and we were beginning to host large-scale youth events in the main hall. On top of that other organisations were starting to hear of the facilities and wanted to hire them.
